Temporal Extraction
Computing when requires massive internal computation across what, where, why, who, and how. Biological systems do this efficiently; artificial systems require vast energy. Temporal precision is the smallest output with the largest computational cost. No output can overpower its system-class without destroying its own conditions for existence; the system-class endures.
Temporal Illusion
Technology appears to surpass humanity when speed, replication, and scale distort perception. Fast seems intelligent; abundant seems profound; synthetic seems infinite. This produces illusions of transcendence—AGI, singularity, superintelligence—that never exceed the conscious system-class. Perception races ahead of physical complexity, creating time-amplified misunderstandings of real limits.
Temporal Drift
When civilisation’s sense-making systems feed primarily on their own outputs—AI-on-AI, finance-on-finance, media loops—they lose contact with ecological and physical reality. Predictive power collapses; drift accelerates. Self-referential systems shrink their world, amplify internal noise, and destabilise until collapse is unavoidable. Time corrects illusions by forcing reality contact.
Temporal Dependence
Prediction and technological stability require the underlying system-class—planet, biosphere, human minds—to remain stable. No emergent layer can maintain accuracy or independence amid engine collapse. Robots, AI, and institutions remain downstream of biological and planetary conditions. Destroy the engine and the dependent systems fail immediately.
Temporal Selection
Time selects only one output from a system-class to form the next realm. All other outputs decay, remain subordinate, or become illusions. Human imagination sees infinite futures; time preserves only one branch. Innovations, theories, and technologies survive only if they meet strict temporal stability criteria.
Temporal Shedding
As a system approaches realm transition, time removes most outputs, behaviours, and structures. Shedding reduces noise, instability, and illusion so the realm-capable output can stabilise. From inside the system, this looks like collapse or loss, but it is the structural purification required for emergence. Only one output survives.
Temporal Incompleteness
No observer—mind, AI, civilisation—can access the full past, present, or future of its own system-class. Data is partial, delayed, filtered, and limited by lifespan and attention. Models are always built inside a finite horizon. Total temporal knowledge is structurally impossible; prediction, history, and self-description are permanently incomplete.
